Rochon was raised in Torrance. She was the daughter of Zelma Staples (a nurse practitioner) and Samuel Staples (a businessman and graphic artist). Cerritos high school in Cerritos was where she graduated from. She graduated in 1986 from California State University Dominguez Hill (CSUDH) with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She also majored in Sociology and Theatre. Rochon's return to CSUDH was in 2016 in the year she was a speaker at commencement for the College of Arts and Humanities.

Ullerup played Julia Brynn for the first time on Battlestar Galactica: The Remake in 2006 on the Sci Fi Channel. The character she played, Ashley Magnus, was written out of Sanctuary's first and second seasons. Her departure remained the subject of debate between viewers, with a majority people wanting her to the show in subsequent episodes up until the show's cancellation in the year 2012. Ullerup appeared as Bree O'Brien, in Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup played Maggie Thomas as the estranged ex-wife of Michael Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact. Ullerup's regular role in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered series is Dale Travers since 2016.
