Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artistic gymnast. She was captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who were winners in their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in the floor and team competitions as well as the bronze medal on the balance beam, making her the most accomplished American gymnast to compete at the Games. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she was awarded a gold medal in the team event which made her and teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans who won back-to-back gold team medals. Raisman also took silver medals in the individual all around and floor exercise. Raisman also received silver medals for the individual all around and for floor exercise. She has also been two-time champion of the national team on floor exercise (2012 and 2015) she was the 2012 national champion on balance beam and five times a medallist in the all-around at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2010, 2011 and the 2015 season). In 2013 she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was the former gymnast from high school and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994 in Needham. She has three younger siblings: Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman who is Jewish, has stated that she takes a lot pride in the fact that she is able to represent the United States of America but also the Jewish community around the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when was just 18 months old. She credits her first love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics and whose performance she watched on VHS.She took classes at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through the level 8 stage, when she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year via online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
